Blogging from Worldcon 73 (Sasquan) in Spokane Washington

So, my amazing publisher sent me here, to the 73 World’s Science Fiction . Why? To look at the trends in SciFi/Fantasy (since that’s what I write) and to have fun.

First, there are a lot of people here. It topped 5k at some point yesterday. Today, they are doing the prestigious Hugo Awards. There were 700+ people in the line for the awards. It should be awesome.

Second, there are a lot of Indy publishers and self-publishers here. This doesn’t surprise me at all in the fandom community. There are a lot of writers in fandom (even if they aren’t writing a specific fandom, we all got here some how). Plus, a lot of books for sale! If you were one of the lucky ones, you got a coupon from me, for a Free copy of my short story “Nightlife“. We passed out approximately 100 coupons!

There are some amazing costumes, both being worn, and on display. And as we all know, a picture is worth a thousand words, especially if it can lead to a new character or plot device. Sadly, I’m having trouble making the pictures work. When I do, I’ll add a few in. They were gorgeous.

Due to the fires up in this area, I missed a little bit of con (headache caused by smoke). But my roommates and friends have been going daily, and blasts are being had. Not to mention, meeting new people, and reconnecting with old friends and family.

And I have some ideas for the new Detective Lilah Evan’s novel 🙂
